The second video was recorded just a few hours ago at Timacuan.

While we were on vacation in Michigan we had quite a few opportunities to play golf (big surprise).  One of our friends was kind enough to come along and take some photos of our golf adventure.  They turned out pretty good too!

I was looking at one of these pictures which looks almost exactly like one of my golf “heros” Ben Hogen.  I have this Ben Hogan picture hanging in my office so I thought the similarity is pretty close.  What do you think?

Right now I’m putting some of the final details together for our Bogey Killers Golf League Awards Banquet.  We have Wally Armstrong (www.wallyarmstrong.com) scheduled to be our keynote speaker.  Mr. Armstrong was a PGA Touring Pro for many years, playing golf at the highest levels.  For a while he even held the rookie scoring record at The Masters.

Needless to say, Wally is a devout believer and plans to bring a message of great inspiration and hope.  He has written a great book that I thouroughly enjoyed called, “The Mulligan.”  The book follows the story of a man whose golf game mirrors his life – it’s not that good.  Through the help of “the old pro,” a character that represents God, the man finds out how to enjoy golf by not taking it so seriously, and how to find enjoyment in life through Christ.

The banquet is taking place on June 28th at 6:30 in the clubhouse at Mayfair Country Club.  If’ you’re already a Bogey Killer then there is no cost.  It’s free.  If you would like to come to the banquet and you are not registered then there is a small $15 registration fee.

For the past several months I’ve been really hoping to put together a fun yet competive golf league at LifePoint.  Recently I’ve been spending a lot of time golfing at Mayfair Country Club and I’ve been able to get to know the folks who are in charge of the course.  When I approached them about bringing a church-based men’s golf league to their course they were very receptive.  Within a few short weeks we had the whole thing worked out.

Today was a somewhat historic day for me and my budding career as a weekend-warrior-golfer. After 5 months of playing, a dozen lessons, countless practice balls, and a few hours spent practicing chipping and putting…I finally broke the 100 mark and shot a 98 at Mayfair Country Club. My next few lessons will be focused on short chipping and pitching around the green as well as long putts.  I’m hoping to purchase a new 60 degree wedge within the week to help me in the short game.

Some of my friends have sort of pointed out that recently I am becoming a “golf nut.”  I can see how it might look like that from an outside perspective.  Let’s see, golf a couple times a week, take lessons, buy new clubs…yeah, sounds like a golf nut to me.  I’m not going to try and defend myself or anything but I will say that I do enjoy hitting the links.  It’s peaceful, it’s natural, and (most of the time) it’s fun.  My golf instructor, Dave Allen, has really had his hands full getting my game in shape but I’m happy to say that today I dropped an additional 2 strokes off of my handicap (it’s 32).

I also found this cool web site, www.oobgolf.com, that tracks your progress.  I’ve inserted a little chart into this post in case you are interested in my progress.
